Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area (MRCCA) Ordinance Update

The City of Anoka is in the process of updating its MRCCA ordinance. The MRCCA is a corridor of land along each side of the Mississippi River in the Twin Cities metro area. The MRCCA program guides land development along the river to protect the corridor’s natural, cultural and scenic resources. Rules and regulations have been in effect since the MRCCA’s designation in 1976, but new rules were adopted by the State of Minnesota in 2017. The new rules are intended to more consistently protect habitat, scenic views and water quality, while still allowing development and redevelopment along the river. The City of Anoka must update our zoning regulations to comply with the new rules.
