Anoka Pumpkin Smash

Anoka Pumpkin Smash (DIY)

This year the Anoka Pumpkin Smash will be a "DIY" activity!  Instead of a 4-hour event like previous years, we are providing a longer block of time in hopes that more families will have an opportunity to compost their pumpkins - instead of throwing them in the trash!

We invite you to bring your pumpkins (and gourds) for composting to drop into the dumpster from Saturday, Nov. 2nd - Sunday, Nov. 10th at Rick Sorenson Park, 2015 State Avenue in Anoka.

- Remove all decorations and candles
- Do NOT include painted pumpkins (can cause contamination)
- Please no climbing into or onto the dumpster
- Pumpkins will be composted after Nov. 10th

Recycle String Lights

Recycle Old String Lights

Beginning Nov. 1st - January 31st, you can recycle your
old, unwanted string lights at Anoka City Hall.  Please
bring your lights and place them in the collection boxes in the lower level of Anoka City Hall (2015 First Ave),
Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)
and we will recycle them for you.

Please do NOT bring any rope lights or holiday decorations, just the standard string lights are recyclable through our program.  The Waste Reduction & Recycling board members, who package the lights for recycling, greatly appreciate it if you please make sure the bag or box you bring them in is clean.  Thank you for recycling!

Organics Kit

Organics Recycling Program is "Growing"

Would you like to compost your food waste instead of tossing it in the garbage?  The amount of food that gets thrown away can save volumes in your garbage container.

Consider joining our FREE organics recycling drop-off program.  Learn more and sign up online. A starter kit with instructions and some compostable bags will be provided to you.

The site is located at 649 East Garfield St. (entrance right off 7th Ave. just south of the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center) - it's easy to find and easy to access.  We have over 200 participating residents.  Let's add your name to the list so you can start composting your food scraps for free!

Little Free Library

Little Free Library

We Read and Reuse Books (WRRB)  -  We love our Little Free Library!  It is stationed in back of Anoka City Hall (2015 First Ave), along the Rum River Trail.

Please feel free to take a book home to read, relax with a book along the banks of the Rum River, and stop back with more books to share.  We ask that only general fiction and non-fiction books be placed in the library.  While many people love cookbooks and magazines, we ask that those items and other materials (brochures, flyers, etc.) not be placed within the library.  Thank you for sharing and have a great read!

Peterson Shoes

Gently-Used Shoe Drive

Don't forget!  Peterson Shoes in downtown Anoka continues to accept gently-used shoes for donations to help support the Soles4Souls program.

Bring any gently-used shoes (all types) to Peterson Shoes at 209 E. Main St., during regular business hours. Anoka's Waste Reduction & Recycling Board is proud of this partnership. We appreciate the work of those at Peterson Shoes who collect, prepare, and package the shoes for shipping. The collective weight of all the shoes is applied towards the city's recycling tonnage goal - it's a win-win for all!

Waterfowl For Warriors Can Collection Trailer

Waterfowl for Warriors - Aluminum Can Collection

You can easily help support Anoka's Waterfowl for Warriors program by donating your aluminum cans to one of the two collection trailers in the city.

Find the trailers at:
-  Better Vaules Liquor Store - 847 East River Road
-  Off 600 Castle Field Blvd - just north of Castle Field and to the west of Anoka Ice Arena

The cans are recycled and the funds earned help support the lunches served at several Waterfowl for Warriors hunts each fall.  The Waterfowl for Warriors hunts allow veterans and active service members to hunt and participate in this free program.  Another win-win for all!
