Waste Reduction & Recycling Board

Anoka's Waste Reduction & Recycling Board (WRRB)
is offering the following free programs to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Soles4Souls Shoe Drive

Thank you Anoka community!  Since this program began last fall, Peterson Shoes has collected over 1,100 pounds of new or gently used shoes for the program. Therefore, we are continuing to "pair" up with Peterson Shoes to collect gently used shoes to support Soles4Souls.

If you have new or gently used shoes (all types/all sizes) that you would like to donate, please bring them to Peterson Shoes (209 E Main St) during regular business hours.  Learn more about
Soles4Souls.

Organics Recycling Drop-off Program

Our new FREE organics recycling drop-off collection program is going strong! There are 137 Anoka city residents already participating. This is a convenient and efficient way to reduce the amount of waste in your trash container. It also prevents the organics from ending up in a landfill.

This program is supported by a grant and SCORE funding through Anoka County.

How to participate

  • Sign Up Online and you will be contacted when your kit is available for pick up at Anoka City Hall. The free kit includes a small collection container, compostable bags, instructions of what is accepted, plus details of the convenient drop-off location.

  • Below is an example of what can and cannot be recycled in the program.

Recycle Holiday String Lights

Now through January 31, 2023, recycle your old, unwanted holiday string lights at Anoka City Hall.

Bring your lights and place them in the collection boxes in the lower level of Anoka City Hall (2015 First Ave), Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays) and we will recycle them properly for you.

Please DO NOT bring any rope lights or holiday decorations. The standard string lights are the only type recyclable through our program. It is helpful for us when preparing the lights for the recycling process, if you please make sure the bag or box you bring them in is clean. Thank you!
